You’ve made it this far, so you can call me Jay! I’m the Head Photographer and Director of The Lavender Haze, an all-queer wedding photography and video studio, living and working on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. The team reaches all across Naarm/Melbourne.
I love a spot of karaoke, playing tennis and hitting my local Baths. But what you should know about is less of my day-to-day and more on how I'll move through your big one!
I'm like your mate with a camera, not someone barking orders. I give you space to be yourselves so you can be fully present and when the time’s right, I jump in and create portraits you’re relaxed through and end up loving. No choosing between candid or editorial. With my approach, you get both.
I shot my first wedding in 2010 before marriage equality passed, and pretty quickly realised how needed a visibly queer photography service was at the time. And ya know what? It still is.
Over the years I’ve built a team of the best queer creatives to serve our community and we've had the privilege of documenting some truly stunning love fests all over Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
And yes, I do get asked this a lot… we absolutely shoot straight weddings too (yes, you can laugh)! There are all sorts of reasons couples book myself or the team that goes beyond aesthetic. Feel free to reach out to the studio to book in a meeting with me and chat more about your plans.
